Trying out Linux. Take 6 months off your learning curve.

Given a choice between  reading about how something should be done and seeing it actually being done,  I will always choose the later.   If a picture is worth a thousand words, then what is a 145 frame flash video?  Answer, a great way to learn Linux.  Here is were I put that belief to the test with my video contributions to the Linux and open source community.

The video’s I create are on Vectorlinux. I just can’t say enough about this, highly, under recognized Linux distribution.  It is fast and suitable for computers old and new alike.  It is also an ideal environment in which to learn Linux.   I’d encourage you to use Vectorlinux along with these tutorials as a dual boot or as a Virtual Machine along with your chosen distribution.  If not, you may still find many of the tutorials useful.  Topics such as ‘Working from the command-line’, ‘Building Software from source’, ‘Java’, ‘Opensource Software Applications’, etc; will all be valuable no matter what Linux distribution you choose.

Opensourcebistro is currently converting over to a Wordpress Blog format. The idea being, the more I can automate with the features of Wordpress, the more time I have to create tutorials.

Trouble is all of the tutorials I have created so far link back to this page, and I've created hundreds. You can check them out using the menu on the left, not all have been moved to the blog format. They will all have links that will bring you back to here.  So for the time being at least you will have to navigate from here to get back to the Blogs main page.

As well as making my life easier, the Blog format offers many user benefits as well.
1. Search works flawlessly within the Blog format, (as long as it has been posted by the blog.)
2. RSS feeds are available.
3. Comments can be made on any post.
4. Collaboration is possible via WordPress.
Oh and it's going to be much better looking.  I never was much of a web designer.
Thanks for being patient through the transition

So what is Opensourcebistro all about anyway??? Bistro' started as a suggestion on the Vectorlinux forums.  The idea being that if tutorials could be provided they could accomplish a couple things.
  1.  Demonstrate that Linux is not difficult, just different.
  2.  Provide a resource for the other users of Vectorlinux that have decided not to become members of the forum. (Something I highly recommend by the way.)
  3.  As a resource for forum members.  Why answer the same question for the 3rd time, just provide a link to the proper tut', or use a tut' to give the necessary background info needed for your answer.
  4.  Or answers are often helpful for other Linux users.  Tweating, Digging, Youtubing, and posting the tut's to other forums like Linuxquestions.org helps others and spreads the work about the Vectorlinux operating system.
